Also the novel is informal, which is a good detail since we can tell how much of a person Miguel is by the way he speaks. By reading his thoughts, we can understand how he feels and why he does his actions. The novel is written in first person so it helps us understand Miguel, our delinquent juvenile, better. He tell us a story about facing conflicts in life and how it is easier to just run away and hide from them. In the “ We were here” by Matt de la Pena, one of the writers main purpose is to entertain the readers with a story full of adventure, mystery and understanding. Mong offers him a ride to Mexico and that is where his new chapter begins. He wants to run away from his mistake, so he can start a new life and thanks to Mong he can. Not just from the group home but his whole life, escape from his hometown, memories and his own mother who may never love him again. Miguel does not lie the idea of being in a group home so he wants to escape. ![]() The book “ We were here” is about a mixed young boy, white and mexican, named Miguel who was sent to a group home for a year. When conflicts appears in someone's life, there are many ways to handle it, but the main one is running away from them. ![]()
